It’s fun to prepare for the last days in Vietnam. I spend a lot of time thinking about the food and how to celebrate the culture in my home. I usually work hard to make sure all the details are just right. In this instance, making sure there are enough chopsticks and colorful Asian paper goods; Asian sodas and Vietnamese treats; paper fans with Asian artistry for a warm night; and other tiny details in hopes that when you walk in there is a “Vietnamese” feel.
The sights, sounds and smells included an assortment of food and Vietnam War era music. As a nice start to the evening, some of our really great friends brought awesome summer rolls with three dipping sauces to compliment the minty, veggie rolls. Other beginning courses included: Tomato egg drop soup, Egg and Shrimp Scallion Pancakes, and Tamarind candies.
Specialties in honor of the country that were also made or brought over: Stir Fried Chicken and Mushrooms, Grilled Chicken-Viet style, Sesame Cookies, a variety of Asian noodles, awesome homemade mango ice cream and banana cake.
Now it is time to say goodbye to time well spent and probably one of our favorite places. Our next destination: EGYPT!!! Looking ahead to Bedouin evenings and Mediterranean fare. AWESOME recipe book acquired: yes. Menu planned: yes. So come on and join us if you are ever in our area; and as they say in the south, come over and sit a spell, but maybe under a tent drinking Turkish coffee.
